Dannielle Says:
I’m not friends with gay people who DON’T love cats… so they don’t count.
Kristin Says:
In a new issue of Rolling Stone, Tom Gabel, singer of the band Against Me!, announced plans to start transitioning into a woman.
She will eventually go by the name Laura Jane Grace, will stay married to her wife Heather, and plans to take hormones and undergo electrolysis treatments. She says she’s been dealing with gender dysphoria privately for years.
Gabel only told a handful of family and friends about her plan to transition before talking to Rolling Stone. Because this is the first time a major rock star has come out as transgender, the singer made a point of speaking openly about it. “I’m going to have embarrassing moments,” says Gabel, “and that won’t be fun. But that’s part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they’ll be fairly kind.”
More power to her.
Done this. Doesn’t work.
You don’t know the impact you’ve had because nobody is going to tell you about it.
I was sitting here thinking about all my friends who are graduating - all these people I won’t see again. And it sucks. It sucks serious ass.
But then I was thinking, it’s so weird, even the people I’m not the closest to - even those who I haven’t spent late nights or early mornings with - have had an impact. So here’s to you class of 2012, you made an impact, even if nobody will tell you how.
